This was James L. Rubel’s book plate.
Typically, author-signed bookplates were used when a writer would sign many copies of a book, like at a book-signing event.
You don’t see book plates get used much anymore (probably because books are online now), but I’ve heard they do occasionally.
Please note: the symbol up in the right hand corner is a “Navajo Indian” symbol and not otherwise.
